Superferry Ruling May Cancel Rail

Councilman Charles Djou

The Hawaii State Supreme Court's ruling against the Hawaii Superferry may have unintended consequences. It is possible that state laws benefiting only one entity could be ruled "unconstitutional" if the same criteria that applied to the Superferry is used against other single entity projects. A long shot possibility is that the $7 billion fixed rail project could be canceled!

Honolulu City Councilman Charles Djou spoke about the possible fallout of the ruling as applied to city projects.

I'd love to see the $7 billion rail project die.

None of those 5 items will be voided. This is just a scare tactic by people who have not read closely enough Act 2 and the Supreme Court's decision on it. It is amazing how many people are commenting on the decision without having assimilated it and how many more will listen to them and allow themselves to be misled on it. It reminds me of people who like to go into a "Haunted House" on Halloween. They almost want to be scared.

It is a longshot as I originally stated. However one can hope that the fallout from the Superferry can adversely effect wasteful projects like rail, which I have long opposed. I'm willing to let this run its course.
