Hawaii Superferry's Alakai will be leaving island waters tomorrow afternoon, March 29 at 2:00 p.m. While hope remains that the Superferry can someday return, I think we have seen the last of this magnificent vessel that proved Hawaii residents, businesses and visitors will use and need this most important interisland transportation option. It is too bad the environmental wackos, their political supporters (Senators Hooser, English, etc.) and the "dysfunctional" Hawaii State Supreme Court have forced Hawaii Superferry out of business.
Alakai is headed for its place of birth, Mobile Alabama, presumably the Austal factory where she was built. It is possible she will be retrofitted with her own loading ramp and prepared for either long term lease or sale to the military or another commercial entity.
Hawaii Superferry will be missed by its many fans, supporters, businesses and customers. I was looking forward on voyaging with them to the Big Island this year.
Bon voyage Alakai until we meet again!

Alakai Departs for Mobile
Hawaii Superferry today announced that the Alakai departs Honolulu Harbor at 3:30 pm today for Mobile, Alabama. The Alakai's 7,600-mile journey from
Hawai'i through the Panama Canal, directly to Mobile, will take
approximately three weeks.
Alakai¹s move to Mobile is to position her for future employment.
Unfortunately, as a result of the Supreme Court decision, the company
doesn¹t have a business opportunity in Hawaii for the foreseeable future.
Our customers require and deserve regular, reliable service. Plus, the ship has to be put to work.
Hawaii Superferry would like to thank the multitude of local citizens and businesses that have supported the company...
