A good reason to save the annual Kailua 4th of July fireworks show is to keep Kailua traffic and people away from the Ala Moana fireworks show that I attend nearly every year.
I got this notice from a Kailua fireworks supporter:
"KAILUA- A tradition in Kailua since 1948, the Annual 4th of July Fireworks display has been cancelled this year. A community group is contacting businesses, organizations and individuals to support the long-time event attended by more than 10,000 people every year, for 60 years (it has only been missed once- in 2002 because of barge problems).
A petition has been started to show support for the Fireworks display in hopes of bringing financial and operational support together at this late date. Steps are being taken to bring back the Fireworks this year and we need to show support for the event. That the community WANTS our Fireworks again this year.
It's the 50th anniversary of Statehood... now more than every we should be celebrating! Please show your support and Aloha for Fireworks in Kailua.
Click here to sign the petition and add your name and even comments too."
